IT Portal's 4.6.41 Update - Integrations, Passkeys & Access Control Release

Release

Overview

This release covers versions 4.6.28 through 4.6.41 and builds on our 4.6.27 release. It's headlined by integration work that saves MSPs real setup time, a big step forward in how you sign in and grant access, and a long list of everyday improvements across documents, devices, and the browser extension. If you followed along with the 4.6.41 beta, this is the finished release.

Release timing: 4.6.41 is available for On-Premise on Friday, October 9, and rolls out to the Cloud the following week.

Major Releases & Integrations

Microsoft 365 for Partners — Microsoft partners can now sync all of their customers' Microsoft 365 tenants from a single partner setup, instead of configuring each tenant one by one. IT Portal discovers your customer tenants, matches them to your existing companies, and warns you before a partner relationship expires. Setup guide →

Datto RMM: Multiple Connections — Running more than one Datto RMM tenant? Connect them all to the same portal. Each connection keeps its own site and device mappings, so nothing gets overwritten. Setup guide →

SyncroMSP Two-Way Sync — SyncroMSP is no longer import-only. Changes you make in IT Portal now flow back to Syncro, the same way our ConnectWise and Autotask integrations already work. Setup guide →

HaloPSA Asset View & Expanded Sync — Every synced device now has a HaloPSA tab showing the asset as Halo sees it: status, model, serial number, owners, custom fields, installed software, and tickets from the last 90 days, with one click to open the asset or its tickets in Halo. The sync can also bring in full company details, knowledge base articles, software licenses, and suppliers, each switched on or off separately. Setup guide →

Active Directory & Device-Agent Import — A new PowerShell agent replaces the old VBScript importer. It brings in Active Directory contacts, computers, sites, subnets, and groups, supports offline upload, and skips records it has already imported, so repeat runs stay clean. Setup guide →

Personal API Keys & Microsoft Entra Sign-In for AI Assistants — Users can now create their own API keys from My Settings, and every request made with one only sees what that user can see in the portal: the same companies, the same object permissions, the same password access. That makes it safe to connect AI assistants like Microsoft Copilot or ChatGPT through MCP, because the assistant works as the person using it, never as an all-access admin. Teams on Microsoft 365 can sign in with their Microsoft Entra account instead of managing keys at all. Personal keys are off by default; an administrator turns them on under Admin Settings → Security → API Keys, then decides who can create them, caps what any key can reach, set how long keys last, and can review activity or revoke a key at any time. Organization-wide keys gain "all companies except" and "all resources except" options too. Setup guide →

AWS Cloud Documentation — Document your Amazon Web Services environment automatically and browse it right next to the rest of your documentation. Read more → Setup guide →

Security & Access Control

Passkeys for Your Portal Login — Secure your own IT Portal sign-in with a passkey instead of a one-time code. Rather than typing a six-digit code from an authenticator app, confirm with your fingerprint, face, Windows Hello, or a security key. Passkeys are phishing-resistant, so a convincing fake login page can't capture anything it could reuse. Setup guide →

Passkeys in the Password Manager — Store passkeys for the sites and systems you manage alongside your passwords, and sign in with a single tap through the Chrome and Edge browser extension. Nothing to phish, reuse, or forget. Read more → Setup guide →

Temporary Permissions — Give a technician extra access for a set period: a higher access level, or membership in another company group while they're covering a client or helping the help desk. When the period ends, their access goes back to what it was automatically. No more remembering to take it away. Setup guide →

Bulk Company Security Settings — Apply company-level security settings, such as requiring users to have access before they can open objects, to all companies, selected companies, or specific company types in one step, instead of editing hundreds of companies by hand. Setup guide →

See Exactly What Admins Changed — Admin access logs now record what actually changed when a user or setting is edited, showing the before and after values instead of only noting that something changed. Setup guide →

Also in this release:

  • Change your personal encryption key — rotate the key that protects My Password List whenever you need to
  • Password change log shows who and what — see which user or integration changed a password, with a link straight to the item
  • Recovery & Purge across every object type — one consolidated list to find and restore deleted items

Browser Extension & Mobile

Passkeys in the Extension — The Chrome and Edge extension now stores and uses passkeys. Save a passkey to an account, device, configuration, or your personal vault in IT Portal, then sign in to that site with a single tap. Read more → Setup guide →

Search the Portal from the Extension — Find portal objects and files directly from the browser extension, without opening the portal first. Arrives in a browser extension update releasing later next week. Setup guide →

MFA Code Auto-Fill — The extension fills in the one-time code along with the username and password. Arrives in a browser extension update releasing later next week. Read more → Setup guide →

  • Faster password search in the extension
  • Edit more from the extension — update a login's description, notes, and URL, not just the username and password
  • Mobile app idle timeout — the mobile app now follows the same idle timeout as the web login

Documents & Knowledge Base

Find & Replace for Notes and Knowledge Base — Changed your portal address or rebranded? Set up find-and-replace rules once in your site settings, and old links and names across notes, KB articles, and documents display with the new text everywhere. Your original content is never altered, so you can change or remove a rule at any time. Setup guide →

  • Move folders to a new parent folder
  • Choose image size on upload — shrink large photos to medium or small as you add them to a folder
  • Download a whole folder as a single zip
  • PDFs keep their file name when you download one you've opened in the browser
  • Faster link insertion in the editor
  • Password notes and device notes are now included in your portal export
  • Cleaner record pages — the folder panel stays hidden when there are no subfolders

Devices, Integrations & Data

  • RMM and PSA conflict check — turning on a new RMM or PSA integration warns you if another one is already active and can switch it off for you, so devices don't sync from two sources
  • Integration data on the device page — see the full set of fields pulled from Atera and your other integrations
  • N-central: mark deleted devices inactive instead of removing them
  • Network discovery matches by IP address, so slightly different hostnames no longer create duplicate devices
  • Automatic IP-to-network mapping during the nightly index
  • Quick upload for device configurations right from the device view
  • Credentials in the related devices table
  • Bulk update tags and import device purchasing fields like Vendor and Invoice Number from a file
  • Relationships in API 3.0 — read and manage relationships between objects through the API, perfect for reporting tools like Power BI

Admin & Platform

Beta Test on a Copy of Your Data — Cloud customers can turn on testing in Admin → Settings and try the next release on a copy of their own database. Your live portal is never touched. Setup guide →

  • Fewer refresh prompts after cloud updates
  • Per-customer favorites, with a choice of which ones appear on the Global Dashboard
  • Subscriptions per type — turn on notifications for one repository without turning them on for all of them
  • In Review widget remembers your selection
  • User Activity shows objects created by each user over all time
  • Redesigned emailed reports with a cleaner layout
  • SQL backup option in the on-premise upgrade script

Coming in Version 5: Login Page Branding Studio

Coming in the Version 5 UI · Q1 2027

We're on track to complete Version 5 of the IT Portal interface in Q1 2027, and you can try it today: a preview is available on any portal by adding /v5 to your portal address. One of the features coming with it: the Version 5 interface will include a live design studio for your login page. Adjust the layout, theme, background, colors, and typography, and preview the result at desktop, tablet, and phone sizes before you publish. You'll also be able to set a company-wide theme while letting individual users choose their own. Preview guide →

Backend Modernization Update

The move from our legacy Classic ASP backend to the modern .NET Core API continued throughout this release, with more integrations, reports, and admin screens now running on the new platform. These changes make the portal faster and more secure, and lay the groundwork for the Version 5 interface.

Looking Ahead

We remain on track to have the complete backend fully migrated to .NET Core by the end of the year, and to complete the Version 5 interface in Q1 2027. Want an early look? Add /v5 to your portal address to open the preview. As always, tell us what you'd like to see next — reach the team at [email protected].
