Test the Next Release on Your Own Data - In Minutes, Not Overnight

Update

New in IT Portal 4.6.41 · Q4 2026

Overview

Before you roll out a big import, restructure your documentation, or adopt a new release, you want to try it somewhere safe first. IT Portal cloud customers have always had a testing site for exactly that - but enabling it meant waiting until the next day for your testing copy to be prepared overnight.

Not anymore. In IT Portal 4.6.41, your testing database is prepared on demand. Turn testing on, and a copy of your own portal is ready to use within minutes.

How it works

  1. An administrator opens Site Options in Admin Settings and enables testing.
  2. Choose an end date for your testing window and save.
  3. IT Portal starts preparing a copy of your database right away. The page shows that your testing database is being prepared and keeps an eye on it for you.
  4. As soon as it is ready, the page lets you know and opens the testing site in a new tab. Log in with your usual company name, username and password.

Don't want to wait on the page? Click I'll test later - your testing database keeps being prepared in the background, and the testing site link is right there when you come back.

Why it matters

  • Test on real data. The testing site is a copy of your own portal - your companies, devices, documents and settings - so what you try there reflects what will happen in production.
  • Minutes, not tomorrow. No more planning a day ahead. Decide to test, and start testing the same afternoon.
  • Zero risk to production. Everything you do on the testing site stays there. The testing site is clearly labeled as not production, so nobody confuses the two.
  • Try the next release early. The testing environment is where upcoming releases land first, so your team can get comfortable with new features before they reach your live portal.
  • Clean up is automatic. Testing windows run for up to 90 days. When your end date passes, the testing copy is retired for you - no forgotten copies lingering around.

Great for

  • Rehearsing a large import or integration before running it for real
  • Training new technicians without touching live client data
  • Previewing an upcoming release with your own workflows
  • Trying out permission or configuration changes safely
