Search Your Whole Portal - and Your Files - from the Browser Extension

Update

New in IT Portal 4.6.41 · Q4 2026

Overview

Technicians live in their browser. They are in a ticket, a vendor console or a customer's cloud portal when they need one more piece of information: the device's details, the company's network document, the PDF someone attached last month. Until now, that meant opening IT Portal in another tab and searching there.

With IT Portal 4.6.41, the browser extension you already use for passwords can search the rest of your portal too — portal objects and the files attached to them — from the same search box in your toolbar.

How it works

Open the extension and use the ⋮ menu next to the search box to choose what you are looking for:

  • Password — the credential search you already know, with auto-fill, favorites and everything else unchanged.
  • Portal Object — search companies, devices, accounts, agreements, configurations, contacts, documents, knowledge base articles, sites and more. Each result shows the item's name, its type and the company it belongs to.
  • Files — find the items that have a matching file attached, searched by file name. Looking for "network diagram" or every item with a .pdf attached? Files search finds them even when the item itself is called something completely different.

Click any result and it opens in IT Portal in a new tab. Need to narrow it down? Type a company name in the company box and results are limited to that customer. The extension remembers which mode you used last, so it opens the way you work.

Why it matters

  • Less context switching. Find what you need without leaving the page you are on — one search box for passwords, documentation and files.
  • Find files by what they are, not where they live. Attachments are often stored on a company, site or device folder. Files search surfaces them by name, whether they are attached to the item itself or stored in its folders.
  • Faster answers for every technician. New team members do not need to know exactly where something was documented to find it.
  • The same portal search you trust. Results come from IT Portal's own search, and opening an item uses your normal portal permissions.

Getting started

Make sure your portal is on IT Portal 4.6.41 and your browser extension is updated to the latest version (Chrome, Edge and Firefox), which adds portal search. Open the extension, click the ⋮ menu, and choose Portal Object or Files.
